Garter Snake

Description

A beautiful Common Garter Snake one of our cats caught. Luckily he was unharmed, so we were able to release him again without worrying too much about his immediate safety.
This was one of the most gorgeous, vibrant colorations on a garter snake I've ever seen. The camera didn't do justice to the colors.

This garter snake is non-venomous (to humans, as they cannot inject the venom efficiently) and harmless. Didn't even try to bite. PLEASE, if you find snakes in your yard, leave them alone, unless you are removing them from a dangerous situation, such as your cat/dog catching them or if they are trapped. Do research on your local venomous snake species so you can identify them, and if the species you find is venomous, do not try to kill them or handle them yourself! Either simply leave them alone if they aren't harming anything, or call a professional for removal. Most snake bites only happen when humans are trying to catch or harm the snake and they feel rightfully threatened. Otherwise, they don't want to come in contact with you. They are usually more scared of you than you could be of them.

Great Photo, I found a Garter snake in my backyard,(I live in Utah). It musked me since I picked it up, I knew they were harmless.
I like snakes, and garters can be pretty helpful. They make good pets, (thinking of getting a captive bred one).
